LET TALK

SHORT AND SWEET

BTF-Short&Sweet

I’ve got a quick little post for you this week.  You’re busy.  I am busy.

First, many thanks to ALL of you that actually take the time to read my blogs and posts and watch my videos and grow and learn.

I’d like to think that it helps you grow and become more balanced people.  Thank you.  And thanks to Dee, who helps me organize and edit my crazy thoughts in a way that makes sense.  She edits all my blogs and so she’s FORCED to read them.  She could probably become a trainer herself now (It’s Dee here:  Ahhh….no.)

Anyway, let’s get to it…

This week’s WOW (Workout Of the Week) is a 20-minute BODY BLAST circuit that I used as my workout this week.  You may have noticed that many of the workouts I post are short on time and sweet on intensity.  I just wanted you to know that, in addition to making the workout easier to commit to because it’s short on time, it’s also very effective.

So the next time you don’t feel like working out or going to the gym or being active, just commit for 20 minutes.  I can already hear you saying “20 minutes??!?  I can do that!”   And you’ll do it.  In fact, I believe 20-30 minute workouts are going to be an on-going fitness trend, especially for Millennials (the Millennial Generation or Generation Y – as in “Why do what everyone else has always done?).

I know what you’re thinking… “That’s nothing.  20 minutes is not enough”.  But it is if you do it every day.  And if it’s simple, focused and has some intensity.  Then it’s effective.

The consistency of it, is what makes it more effective:  How many times have you stopped working out, because you just lost your mojo, got bored or told yourself that you just didn’t have the time (which is the adult version of “My dog ate my homework.”)?

Why not 20 minutes?

If the other 85% of our countrymen and countrywomen who don’t belong to a gym would find a way to be more active for just 20 minutes a day, our world would be a fitter, healthier and happier place.

So next time you tell yourself that you are too busy to workout, remember how you decided right now to just do 20 minutes of something active.

What can you do in 20 minutes?

  • Take a walk (walk the dogs, your kids, your husband) and listen to a motivational song or podcast while doing so.
  • Do a strength circuit (like this week’s Workout of the Week).
  • Do body weight exercises (this is a sneak peek of next week’s video!)
    • For 1 minute, jog in place, then do:
      • 20 squats
      • 20 lunges
      • 20 push ups
      • 20 jumping jacks
      • 20 ankle grabbers
      • Repeat 4 times for a total of 20 minutes (or just under)
    • Do a HITT workout:
      • 5 minute warm up
      • 10 sets of 20 /40 intervals (push hard for 20 seconds then rest for 40 seconds)
      • 5 minute cool down

You can do a lot in 20 minutes.  Even write a blog.

PLEASE EMAIL ME [email protected] if you have a question or subject you’d like me to write about…
