THIS MONTHS FOCUS: MAKING YOUR PERSONAL COMEBACK
→Everyday tools for developing a positive & resilient mindset
ACCEPT, LET GO, and START TO MOVE FORWARD - We are living in unprecedented times. If we listen to the news or stop and look around, we see people in face coverings, businesses closed (for months) and very few people going out, traveling, or doing “normal” life. Well, you know what? Let’s just accept it and move forward… the good and bad of what is going is all based on how we decide to look at the situation. One of the best ways I find to do that is to let go of myself and focus on helping others. What problems are THEY having and how can I help them solve those new problems. As soon as you stop fighting what is, decide to let go of the past, and then consciously focus on a bigger future, it’s going to be easier to break free.
→ Daily actions to help your focus, energy, and vitality by enhancing your food and fitness
PAUSE, ASSESS, AND DECIDE - What is working for you and what isn’t? When it comes to eating healthy and working out now is a great time to 1) PAUSE and look at what you are doing and how things are going for you. 2) ASSESS what is working and what is not (maybe your workouts are but your nutrition is not). Be honest with yourself. If it’s working, keep doing it, if it’s not, DROP it. Then make a choice, 3) DECIDE what you are going to do instead and then start to do it. I had shoulder rotator cuff repair surgery recently that knocked me out of strength training for 6 months. I thought I would instantly fall apart, gain body fat, and lose my energy. WRONG. In fact, I realize that I was exercising with too much intensity, too often and as a result, I was constantly overeating and injured.. I was in the holding pattern of overworking too often followed by overeating of the wrong foods (either as a reward - “I deserve this.” or as a punishment - “I have to work off that crappy meal”). You have to be willing to stop what you are doing and assess it. Then change what is not working so you can replace it with something that will work.
→ Deepening your relationships by connecting with the people who matter most
DO SOMETHING NICE FOR SOMEONE YOU LOVE - Let’s keep this super simple. This month, come back to the basic humanity of performing acts of kindness. Go out of your way this month for someone you love and do something unexpected and special for them. Get your S.O. some flowers or a bullet journal or wash their car. Surprise your children with a special treat for dessert or build a fort in the living room with them on a Friday night. Reach out to a parent or extended family member and just find out how they are doing and if you can help them in any way. It feels good to GET, but even better to GIVE. This month, surprise someone with kindness and compassion and you’ll be surprised how much of an impact you might just make on their day.
→ Creating a positive impact on the world through the work we do
FOLLOW YOUR BLISS - The famous expert in Mythology, Joseph Campbell, speaks about the power of following your bliss. As part of your comeback month, perhaps the fact that your world has “fallen apart” is a good thing. It gives you a chance to explore new opportunities that you have been putting off, new areas of your life that you’ve been wanting to explore. It’s the ideal time to think about what you want your life to look like moving forward. And most importantly, what makes your heart sing. As Campbell says, “When you follow your bliss, doors will open for you where you did not know they even existed.” There has never been a better time to reflect on your life and decide how you want to live your life moving forward. As a leader, this is a great way to help OTHERS do the same.
→ BONUS - this month’s favorite QUOTE, INSIGHT and LINKS
QUOTE: “When you follow your bliss... doors will open where you would not have thought there would be doors, and where there wouldn't be a door for anyone else. ” - Joseph Campbell.
→ INSIGHT: “Where is your focus?
- I often ask this question to clients who are struggling with challenging circumstances. It helps them bring to mind where they are placing their attention and then - and only then - can they create a starting point for shifting their focus to something that moves them forward.
